image from Jam!ShowbizCALGARY -- When he was lead singer of I Mother Earth, Edwin exuded confidence complete with a cocky swagger.

That changed, however, after the release of his debut solo album, Another Spin Around the Sun.

His first solo performances last year seemed somewhat self-conscious as he struggled to be accepted on his own merits.
Now, with more than 100,000 copies of Another Spin sold in Canada and dozens of solo performances under his belt, Edwin's confidence has returned -- and so has that swagger.

His show last night at the Coca-Cola Stage -- where his former band had played just the night before, was well-suited to a warm, if somewhat cloudy, summer evening.  Good vibes and sun-kissed melodies permeate Edwin's music.

From the album's first big hit, Hang Ten, to his latest single, Alive, Edwin had many of the 2,000 assembled singing along.
His backing band kept the groove thick and flowing, adding some nicely executed harmonies where needed.   Although he strutted from side to side acknowledging fans once in a while, Edwin remained relatively static. But this meant he was able to keep his sandpapery vocals strong and focused.

Unfortunately, the volume was a bit low and the further back one was, the harder it was to hear the intricacies of the music.
The Toronto-based singer showed that he was no snooty rock star by stepping off the stage for a few moments to greet some excited fans.

If you missed hearing I Mother Earth's One More Astronaut at their show the night before, Edwin did a repeat performance, putting his own stamp back on the song.  Edwin may still be finding his footing as a solo artist, but he has definitely impressed a lot of people so far.
